Both of these pickguards are hand made from rosewood, I used a natural oil finish on them. The main pickguard is the tone and volume knob for the pickup. The add-on has two rotary encoders with push buttons. This means that I can send a numeric value and a button press for each of these knobs. I ended up also adding long-press option in the software so I can reset values. I wrote the code so that each knob is assigned to a CC number with a range of 0 - 127. A regular press sends MIDI notes C1 and C2. A long-press sends CC value 0 for the assigned CC number so you can reset the value quickly.

Young Turkish scientist aims to be a pioneer

Kutay Sezginel, who is doing a PhD in computational materials design aims to be a pioneer by digitizing world’s first nanocar race.

Scientists say that nanotechnology will bring many technological advancements.
These days they not only design molecular machines but also organize a nanocar race to measure their performance.
The first nanocar race was organized in 2017 in France with 6 teams moving their molecules using special electron microscopes.
The purpose of the nanocar race is to improve our ability to control matter at a very very small scale.
Kutay Berk Sezginel (29), who is doing a PhD in computational materials design at University of Pittsburgh developed a software to help design nanocars.

Looking for Support

Sezginel is organizing a computational version of the nanocar race and he is currently looking for support.
Sezginel said “I think it would be amazing to spearhead such a race as Turkish scientists and I think it would greatly benefit our country. We named the organization Formula Nano, you can check out our website at formulanano.com.”

Barış Özcan is one of the most popular Turkish YouTube content creators and a professional video producer.
In this video he talks about nanotechnology and molecular machines featuring an interview with me about nanocars and the upcoming computational nanocar race
that we are organizing.

The purpose of the race is to advance molecular design and create awareness about nanotechnology and molecular machines.
This research on nanocars is a small but important step towards the broader goal of learning how to build molecular scale machines or “nanomachines”. Pretty much all of the miracles of Nature are accomplished using molecular machines that are a few nanometers large. For example, the cells in your body can be thought of as tiny robots that perform many complex functions, such as moving, eating, and self-replicating. Within cells are even smaller biological machines: motors, conveyor belts, you name it. At this point, scientists really have not made any synthetic nanomachines at all. We are still at the “trying to make nuts and bolts” stage of nanomachine research, and because of that it is hard to envision the practical social benefits in the short term. In the long term, however, the sky is the limit. Future nanomachines may be able to do everything Nature does today and more. Fighting disease, harvesting mass and energy to build atomically precise objects, reconfigurable matter, the number of science-fiction-like sounding applications is endless.

Thanks to his wide audience the video reached more than half a million people!
Hundreds have reached out offering help with organizing Formula Nano!

lighten up your setup and just look cool. I have been thinking about building a box
covered with LED strips where I can blink the lights in sync with a tempo and make them
dance with the music.
Moduled Nano
is a first step towards that direction…

Moduled Nano
is a MIDI programmable LED animator.
You can load sequences of 8x8 pixel images as animations and pay them in different ways.
It has two main modes:

MIDI Mode

In the MIDI mode each image in the sequence is displayed according to the pitch.
The higher the pitch gets the further you move along the animation.
Different animations can be selected with the buttons.
In this mode the left knob controls the LED brightness and the right knob controls the LED ring color.

Free Mode

In the free mode the animations play sequentially. You can again switch between animations using the buttons. In the free mode left knob controls the animation
speed and the right knob again controls the LED ring color.
